Introducing Our Teams for 2020-2021
Creative
The Creative Team assists in planning page layout, message/theme and cohesiveness of the magazine. We use different computer software (mostly Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator) to place photographs, articles, graphics, credits and more so the magazine makes sense and fits the vision of our publication. Towards the end of the semester, we work with the editor-in-chief and third-party printer to communicate and navigate technical issues such as margins and resolutions (I know that sounds super boring but it's kind of exciting because we're so close to seeing the final product.) After receiving the first test print from the printer, as a team, we meet up to sift through any errors in the issue, edit again and send back the updated version for final printing.
This year we are looking for 2 Creative Associates and 1 Graphic Associate for this team.
Modeling
The models in Platform are a key element in showcasing fashion and culture to the magazine as they are the face and body on the pages of the magazine that can portray beauty, emotion, and artistic expression just as much as the clothing and props. In this upcoming semester, I am expecting my models to leave their comfort zone. Our posing is no longer just a way to show off conventional beauty. I'm looking for people who can be willing to learn new techniques of face and body posing to be a piece of the art created through photos. We are taking modeling to the next level this year!
This year we are looking for 10-15 models.
Set Design
Set design team is in charge of building and creating the set/location for Platform shoots. This includes backdrops, props, furniture, and other set design aspects. We always want the environment for the shoot to present the theme and vision of our ideas as best as possible. Team members are expected to collaborate in creating the set from personal resources or outsourcing/building our own. From brainstorming and sketching to actually setting the display, each step is important.
This is our newest team, so for this year we are looking for one Set Design Associate.
Styling
The styling team brings the articles and photoshoot visions to life with fashion. Stylists are responsible for brainstorming and styling all outfits that appear in the magazine and on the Platform website. As a stylist, you will collaborate with photographers, makeup artists, models, set director, and photoshoot manager to develop comprehensive looks for each photoshoot. With this being said, being a stylist requires a keen sense of detail, good communication skills, and ability to quickly adapt to the photoshoot atmosphere.
This year we are looking for 6-7 full-time Stylists who are creative and have a passion for expressing yourself through what you wear.
Digital
The digital content team will be managing the website for Platform, so you will be posting stories, creating content (like graphics and some photography), updating the experience of the website itself and producing video content to show behind the scenes of each semester to be posted on our website. Past experience in graphic/website design (or any type of design), some photography and video making knowledge, detail oriented. None of this is necessarily required but must be reliable and have a good eye!
This year we are looking for 1 or 2 Digital Associates.
Photography
The photography team collaborates with stylists and models to create the images to fill the magazine! You’ll have the chance to participate in 2-4 photoshoots throughout the semester. Each photoshoot you’ll direct models to capture the intent behind the shoot. You’ll be expected to edit your top photographs before the next photoshoot.
This year we are looking for 5-7 Photographers!
As mentioned before you don’t need any previous experience, however, it would be helpful to be familiar with photo editing software and the layout of a DSLR camera. If you don’t own a camera you can always rent one through NCSU libraries!
Social Media
Social Media Team takes care of Platforms Instagram; we ensure there is content prepared for the following month and we incorporate things such as holidays, events at NC state, relevant news, and upcoming updates with Platform magazine into our Instagram. We use editing apps to edit photos such as Adobe Lightroom and Canva to create stories.
Required Skills: Great communication, hard working, collaborative, flexible
Would be great if you have skills: Experience with photoshop, used canva, editing apps
This year are looking for 3 Social Media Associates and 1 videographer/photographer specifically for social media projects.
Writing/Editorial
We create writing content for the magazine and the Platform Website. We brainstorm article topics along with conducting interviews or research on specific topics we would like to be featured in Platform’s magazine and on the website. I expect dedication, innovative ideas, experiences willing to be shared, and enthusiasm to be a part of the editorial team!
This year we are looking for 5-6 full time Writing Associates and some freelance/submission based writers as well.
